Among most people, cellulite is one of the major causes of insecurity. Anyone with cellulite would simply wish to cover up even at the beach. More determined individuals however are set on getting rid of cellulite. Understanding the main cause of cellulite is the first key to helping prevent or get rid of cellulite.

Spotting Cellulite

Cellulite is that dimpling, clustered, soft and tiny bumps and lumps under the skin. Cellulite is often found on the buttocks and thighs. It was believed for some time that cellulite was a disorder among fat women. It has since been established however that cellulite can also be found among thin women and sometimes even among men. Thin people can often find out if they have cellulite by pinching the skin in between the thumb and forefinger. Dimpled pinched skin is a sign that there is cellulite underneath that thin appearance.

Fats and Cellulite

The major cause of cellulite is related to body fat. Underneath the skin are collagen connective tissues that separate the fat into honeycomb compartments. These connective tissues also connect body fats with skin tissues. The fats in the compartments may begin to expand due to weight gain or increased water retention, making the connective tissues expand. When the tissues have expanded beyond their capacity, they will harden and make the skin inflexible. When this happens, the fat will begin to spill over, resulting in a lumpy appearance.

Cellulite Cause Theories

There are many theories as to why and how fats develop and accumulate the way it does. Genes and hormone levels may cause cellulite. There may be no way to avoid cellulite if you are genetically predisposed to develop them.

As far as hormones as a cause is concerned, cellulite develop in women because of swinging levels of hormones during puberty and pregnancy. Increased levels of estrogen may be a cause of cellulite production.

People with poor blood circulation are also likely to develop cellulite. It is generally accepted that healthy blood flow helps in the elimination of body waste including excess body fats. Blood circulation may be impeded by a tremendous lack of body movement compounded by a diet that is high in fats. A general lack of exercise and a poor diet therefore may result in poor blood circulation and poor fat burn up that may lead to cellulite production.

One other theory for the cause of cellulite is called the free radical theory. Our body may contain excessive amounts of free radicals which may attack other cells in the body. This may cause damage to the circulatory system and to the skin organ itself. Damage to the circulatory system may mean less efficiency in body waste disposal and less chances of vitamins and minerals being transported to body cells and tissues. Damage to the skin may result in a reduction in collagen and elastin thereby speeding up the visible effects of cellulite.

Cellulite and Treatment

As treatment, some people take oral medications and pills to eliminate or reduce cellulite. Oral treatments however may not be completely effective. The damage to the circulatory system may prevent the effective transport of oral medication. Topical treatments are almost always more effective. Pick a topical treatment that is rich in free radical fighting antioxidants like Revitol to help with proper blood circulation and skin firming.

A Look into What Causes Cellulite

May 22, 2008 by Peter Whittington

Cellulite plagues many, many women all over the world. Men can also develop cellulite, but it is more common in women. There is no cure for cellulite and anyone can develop it, whether they are skinny or fat. What causes cellulite has been a question in our minds for years, and it has been found that cellulite is made up of little pockets of fat deposited just under the skin. It generally occurs around the thighs, buttocks and hips and creates a bumpy surface on the skin. Everyone has fat layers under the surface of their skin and collagen fibers that connect the fat to the skin will begin to stretch causing little fat cells to pop out creating the “cottage cheese” look.

Some people think that cellulite is an inherited trait, since it does not discriminate between fat or skinny people. Not eating the proper foods can also contribute to what causes cellulite. Having a slow metabolism and not drinking enough water is also thought to be a cause. Losing weight, body wraps and body firming creams are just a few of the products that are being advertised to cure cellulite. Unfortunately, because of what causes cellulite, there is no long term solution to this very unattractive problem. Thousands of dollars are spent every year to eliminate cellulite, but it has been clinically proven that once you have cellulite, not even surgery will make it go away forever.

Preventative Measures

Because there is no effective way to determine what causes cellulite, there is no way to cure it. The only thing anyone can do is to take preventative measures to keep cellulite from ever occurring in the first place. You can start a preventative program by eating a healthy diet rich in fiber that includes lots of fruits and vegetables. Always drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, because dehydrated skin is a prime candidate for cellulite. Regular exercise will help keep your muscles toned so as not to allow the fat deposits to build up in the tissue. Try not to have your weight fluctuate too much.

Fad dieting is a major factor in what causes cellulite, because all of the gaining and losing weight will cause the skin to stretch and break down allowing the fat cells to form. And last, but certainly not least, avoid smoking at all costs! It is the worst possible thing you can do for the health of your skin. Smoking adds the harmful toxins to your body that contributes to the formation of cellulite and makes it exceptionally hard to treat because you are constantly adding fuel to the fire.

Stomach Cellulite: Common Causes And Possible Solutions

May 20, 2008 by Peter Whittington

Cellulite is a particularly problematic condition that takes the form of fat lumpy bulges that don’t ever seem to go away despite your best efforts to get rid of them through performing exercises and even taking certain diets. Often, women even notice this cellulite to take the form of a dimpled look much like that of an orange peel, and were it not for the fact that this is a very common condition, there would not be so much to be concerned regarding the cellulite problem.

Digestive Disorders Are A Probable Cause

Though cellulite can occur on several different places on the body, it is also noticed in the stomach region and not just in the thighs as well as buttocks, where it is most often found since those areas have a lot of accumulated fat there. Stomach cellulite, especially when it concerns the lower portion of the stomach are believed to be closely associated with digestive disorders, for it is common among many women with stomach cellulite to also suffer from constipation, irritable bowel and even liver disorders.

However, the causes of stomach cellulite are many and can include genetics, female hormones, pregnancy, stress and a sedentary lifestyle as well as smoking and even liposuction and pelvic surgery. In fact, a not so common cause for developing stomach cellulite is harsh massaging that can lead to damaging the fragile lymphatic vessel network and thus trigger off cellulite that may then affect the stomach.

Yet another cause for stomach cellulite is obesity, and even though thin people can also be affected by cellulite in their stomachs, if you happen to be obese the likelihood of stomach cellulite developing in your body is greater, because the unwanted and extra fat in your body will push the cellulite in the body, and more particularly, the stomach.

However, the most common cause of stomach cellulite is weak digestion that can in turn be caused by a poor diet, and if your body cannot digest food easily, it will not be able to burn calories, reduce sugar and also fat and proteins, which will then cause the production of enzymes and digestive acids, excessive appetite as well as many other disorders that will only weaken the body further leading to undigested foods and nutrients.

In order to minimize the chances of developing stomach cellulite, you will need to heat up your food before consumption, and at the same time reduce raw food consumption as well as salads, tropical and also citrus fruits and milk and yogurt as too cottage cheese. And, to treat cellulite in the most effective manner possible, it is necessary that you are able to burn it and even melt it in the stomach.
