Argggggh! you scream into the mirror, “I have my mother’s thighs!” While you are not sure where, when, or even how this happened, this morning you found yourself staring into your full length mirror in abject disgust at the sight reflected back at you.

What is Cellulite?

These anti-cellulite creams are available at your local pharmacy or online, and are as easy to use as that favorite bottle of lotion you have sitting on your bathroom countertop.

This means that treatment needs not be located any further from you than your own bathroom, or wherever you choose to moisturize. The difference between creams specially formulated to fight cellulite and that bottle of lotion are the ingredients. Lotions usually contain lanolin, but do not necessarily contain ingredients proven to firm skin, like caffeine. This means that while the manufacturers and doctors may not necessarily agree on what is cellulite, they have been able to create creams proven effective against that dimply skin that you hate so much.

Cellulite plagues many, many women all over the world. Men can also develop cellulite, but it is more common in women. There is no cure for cellulite and anyone can develop it, whether they are skinny or fat. What causes cellulite has been a question in our minds for years, and it has been found that cellulite is made up of little pockets of fat deposited just under the skin. It generally occurs around the thighs, buttocks and hips and creates a bumpy surface on the skin. Everyone has fat layers under the surface of their skin and collagen fibers that connect the fat to the skin will begin to stretch causing little fat cells to pop out creating the “cottage cheese” look.

Having a slow metabolism and not drinking enough water is also thought to be a cause. Losing weight, body wraps and body firming creams are just a few of the products that are being advertised to cure cellulite. Thousands of dollars are spent every year to eliminate cellulite, but it has been clinically proven that once you have cellulite, not even surgery will make it go away forever.

The only thing anyone can do is to take preventative measures to keep cellulite from ever occurring in the first place. And last, but certainly not least, avoid smoking at all costs! It is the worst possible thing you can do for the health of your skin.
